Invest in Her: Men as co-partners to empower Women in ICT

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2024, WIIT in collaboration with Prime IT Club,  organized IWD Conclave 2024, on 02 March 2024 at Prime College, Khusibun, Kathmandu with the IWD Conclave theme “Invest in Her: Men as co-partners to empower Women in ICT”. This event converged students and teachers, dignitaries, professionals, organizations, and institutions to actively participate, reinforcing the idea that everyone has a role to play in promoting gender equality in ICT.

WIIT Chairperson Ms. Gunakeshari Pradhan shared that only around 0.5% of total working women in Nepal are involved in technical sector. She requested all the men from diverse sectors with diverse roles  (be it a father or a brother or a colleague or a boss or a friend) to support women and help in bringing them in the forefront.

The event was honored by the gracious presence of Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ms. Sunita Dangol as the chief guest. She appreciated these kinds of events that sensitize the issues and create awareness in the society.

Mr Ananda Raj Khanal, Chairman of Nepal Digital Leads, Fellow Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) Hawaii, USA and Former Senior Director of Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) appeared as the special guest.

The female keynote speaker was  Ms. Sunaina Ghimire Pandey, Managing Director of General Technology Pvt. Ltd. and former Vice President of CAN federation Nepal. Likewise, male keynote speaker of the event was Mr. Sanjog Thakuri, President of Hami Dajuvai.

The principal of Prime College, Mr. Narayan Prasad Sharma,  presented that 50% of the students in Prime College are female.

In this IWD Conclave 2024, round table discussions were held to discuss in the areas of mentorship and network enhancement, inclusive work environment, advocation for gender equality in ICT education, funding and investment, Men’s march in promoting gender equality in ICT sector  along with tackling  promoting multi-stake holder collaboration.
